How To Set It All Up!

We get a lot of questions about the equipment needed and how to go about setting up the Singing Pumpkins Effect.  So, here are some instructions on how to get this AWESOME effect up and going in YOUR Halloween display!

PLEASE NOTE: We do NOT sell or ship pumpkins or any other equipment!  We only sell animations.

Supplies Needed:

  • 1 video projector

  • 1 portable multimedia player or computer

  • 1 set of speakers

  • 3 uncarved real or fake pumpkins (the center one should be larger than the other two)

  • Our Singing Pumpkins Animations, of course!

Set-up:

  1. First you have to decide WHERE you are going to set up your display.  Make it close enough for people to see, but out of the traffic flow. 

  2. Place the pumpkins in a row, on a flat surface, with the large one in the center and each of the two smaller pumpkins on either side of the large one.  We suggest placing them about waist high, so as to be more visible.

  3. Place the video projector about 4'-6' away (your results may vary) from the pumpkins.  Try to avoid having the projector shooting at too much of an angle, or else the images will distort or move off the pumpkins and ruin the effect.

  4. Plug in all your equipment as per manufacturers recomendations.

  5. Place the speakers near the pumpkins so the music sounds like it's coming from them.

  6. Load the animations onto your favorite multimedia player/computer and press "PLAY".  Fine-tune the placement of the projector/pumpkins so the faces are centered.

  7. That's IT!  Sit back and watch the show!

Equipment Suggestions:

1.  PROJECTORS.  You may notice the projectors we suggest are more on the expensive side.  The reason is that we recommend using ONLY good-quality, name-brand video projectors with as high of a lumens count (brightness scale) as your budget will allow.  There are MANY great projectors on the market, from small portable LED projectors, to larger home theater projectors.  Remember, you get what you pay for.  Click on the images of these suggestions to get you started...

2.  MEDIA PLAYERS.  We STRONGLY suggest using a portable multimedia player to play the animations with (NOT a tablet or phone).  But, you can also play the animations with a laptop or DVD player (you'll have to burn your own DVDs).  There are LOTS of affordable players on the market.  Here's the one we use...

3.  SPEAKERS.  These can be any set of basic computer speakers.  Just make sure you keep them somewhat protected from the elements.

Decorating Supplies:

Here's a few ideas to get you started decorating your Singing Pumpkins display!

Can't have Singing Pumpkins without pumpkins!

Use burlap for a table covering or backdrop.

Cut a hole in one end, turn upside down and hide your projector in it.

Stuff this between crate slats for a fun effect.

Drape around display to simulate pumpkin vines.

Add some accent light to help complete the look.  Change it to any color you want!

Tips:

  1. The theme of your set-up is up to you.  Many people set their pumpkins on a crate, or tombstone, or bale of straw.  The way you hide your projector should go along with the theme of your display. 

  2. You will need to build a hiding place for your video projector and other equipment.  Whatever you build, make sure the projector has enough ventilation so it doesn't overheat and shut off in the middle of a show.

  3. Try to have a little bit of ambient light around your display, as that will help hide any projector overcast that may show up.  However, too much light can drown out the projected image and make the effect not as bright.

  4. For reference, in our videos, we are using an old NEC HT-410 projector.  It has 1,000 lumens.

  5. Set the media player you are playing the animations with to loop continuously.  You don't want to have to press play over and over again all night!

  6. Because the Jack-o-Lantern faces in our Singing Pumpkins Effects start and end in the same postions on EVERY video, the animations can be played back to back and will seamlessly transition from one animation to the next!  Our 1-minute "Intermission" is a GREAT way to break up the songs or to give your show a rest for a few minutes.
